The pit bull that eluded police, stymied motorists and mesmerized TV viewers for two days running along the Eisenhower Expressway last week got a new home today.

The dog now known as Ike finally succumbed to exhaustion, enabling three officers from the Broadview Police Department to finally take him into custody.

Ike was taken to Hillchester Animal Hospital in Hillside where veterinarians treated him with fluids, antibiotics and TLC.

Steve Zorn of a group called Precious Pets Almost Home, a volunteer organization, is taking care of Ike until he can be placed in a new home. The organization describes itself as a rescue group/foster home program. The group's representative said the group will likely not keep the dog, but help find a good home for him.

On its Web site, the organization says any interested persons or families interested in adopting Ike needs to send an email to: precpets@gmail.com.

The Web site warns interested parties to be patient because of the many inquiries already placed.

The organization is also accepting donations to help provide care. "Precious Pets Almost Home" has other homeless cats and dogs, guarantees that the animals are healthy and have been microchipped.

Ike will make an appearance Friday on WGN-TV's "Midday Show."
