Blind Pit in TX

I saw this on another board... just crossposting.

HI,

This is a last post regarding the 3 year old Blind Pit Bull at
Lewisville Animal Control.

Our office manager went by yesterday to
meet him, and it was devastating. It is much worse than thought - we
need to act now, or end this sweet little boy's suffering. Can
anybody help?

We have nobody that will take him in to foster, so we
are powerless. We have been trying to move heaven and earth to
find one, or even another group that could take him and save his
life. Yesterday, Sarah Sharp, our office manager, saw him at Animal
Control. The report was not good, as quoted from Sarah -

"What I saw yesterday was heartbreaking. The 3 yr old adult male
brown Pit Bull, that has been blind since birth, was in a run
separated from the other dogs by a few cages. The entire time I was
observing him he was making a constant circle in his cage. Not like
a large animal at the zoo paces due to stress, but a confused,
continuous movement.

When he heard a sound from me, he quickly came
to the front, but bumped in to the cage. He cocked his head to try
and locate the new sound among the barking chorus and then began his
circling again.
He is reported to be friendly and had lived with one
owner since birth, up until the owner moved to an apartment that
won't allow the dog.
He was given to another man, returned to the
shelter;
adopted by another friend and then returned to the shelter
where he has been since last week.
This poor creature only knew one
environment and had adjusted well, and now has been moved several
times with different people. In spite of all of this, he remains
extremely friendly to the staff at the shelter. He welcomes any
human attention. My heart wants to see him safely in to a loving
home where he can be cared for, but my concern is for what he is
having to endure now. To me, this is extremely cruel for such a
special needs creature. What is the best decision for this dog?"


We are really struggling with this one. We so desperately want to
rescue him, and save him, but after seeing the condition he is in,
and how he is emotionally suffering just by being in the shelter, we
are wondering if the more humane thing for him at this point would
be for us to pull him out of animal control and see him safely to
the Rainbow Bridge where he will suffer no more.

We are really having a hard time with this, and wish there was someone who could help. We don't know what to do- we are making a plea to anyone out there that can help- this little boy needs OUT immediately, or we need to ease his suffering.

It truly is a desperate situation, due to his condition.

planning to take him in. We just need to know he is getting out, or
we might have to make a decision on what is best for him, since we
have now seen him, and the condition he is in.

If I was closer, I'd foster him until a permanent home could be found.
Let them know if they can get him to WA state, we'll take him

There hasn't been an update posted.... I don't know what's going on with him

Guess what? I got an update...

Here is the latest update on Ciego plua a little bio on his foster dad, with pictures and the plan for his future, all he needs is a little financial help so he can have the best possible care,


Ciego (found out from a Spanish speaking person at the vet that this means" blind person") is doing well. He has been neutered and received shots. He is quite the athletic boy and can jump flat footed almost 6 ft! As a result, the staff keeps him on a leash, even when in their fenced yard. They bathed him, and donated a beautiful collar, so he is quite the handsome boy. While under for the neutering, the vet checked his eyes and there does not appear to be any active infection or problem going on. Next week, I will schedule an appointment for any eye specialist through my vet. Any donations would be appreciated as that appointment will be expensive. These can be sent to "A Different Breed" per Ciego the blind pit bull.

My vet thinks there might be a slight chance to restore some sight, but it is a slim chance; however, I am willing to take that chance. I plan on fostering him, until we can find a safe permenant home for him. Evidently another group was out to rescue him as well, but the Lewisville shelter does not do any back ground checks, and will adopt an animal for a $10 fee, on a first come first serve basis. A general plea for assistance had gone out, and as I was afraid he would end up somewhere bad or euthanized as not adoptable, and so I went ahead and got him out.

I volunteer at "A Different Breed" periodically as my schedule allows, and they have graciously agreed to add Ceigo to their adoption schedule, which is why I suggested the donations go there as they are a non-proft and geared to administer such funds.

PS I will not adopt out of State, and a home visit is a must because of the breed. I have two adopted dogs, boxer/APBT mix and a APBT, and both were terribly abused, so I must confirm his situation. Fortunately Ciego was not an abused dog. I want to make sure he stays that way.
