A friend of a friend has a schnauzer (I'm assuming mini, but not positive about that) who eats acorns. She's already had to do emergency surgery for blockages twice. She's looking for recommendations for a muzzle or some other equipment she can put on the dog when she takes him outside. Any ideas?

I don't have any personal experience, but cage muzzle is what comes to mind for dogs that are habitual foreign body ingestions. Its come up before with regards that have repeat surgeries for it when I worked at the animal hospital.
I can only please one person per day. Today is not your day, tomorrow doesn't look good either.

A basket muzzle or possibly one of those plastic Jafco muzzles would work. I would just make sure that it's not a nylon one, and that the wires or holes in the front aren't wide enough for acorns to get through. She would stay out and supervise him, right?

Thanks all! I sent her a link to the plastic jafco one. All the metal basket muzzles I was seeing in my quick online search seemed like the holes were too big to stop acorns. I also told her to make sure he can still open his mouth and pant in whatever she goes with.

And Liz, yes, she is out supervising the dog!

I have a friend that has a hound that eats nuts too...I can ask for any advice also, if you need more!
