Dog Endurance Test?

Weight pull, Protection, Agility, Flyball... you name it!

I thought I read at some time about a dog endurance test (basically just running a dog a certain distance).

Does this ring a bell for anyone?

It's the Schutzhund AD. It's 12 miles.

Has anyone done this?

This sounds like something Earl would enjoy

Hmm, trying to read up on this but there isn't a lot of information available. It appears the handler rides a bike next to the dog. I would rather run with Earl but maybe that is not an option :|

Running with the dog is an option, I think it's just that most people don't want to!

I think it specified the speed the dog has to go, so you might have to run awful fast. That's probably why they recommend the bike.

Gotcha

It sounds like they run these tests with groups of dogs. It might be interesting to try to keep up a pace with someone on a bike but maybe then it could be an endurance test for me as well

It says the dogs must hold a pace of 7.4 to 9.3 miles per hour. I think that is some where around a 6-8 min mile (no way I am running a 6 minute mile for 12 miles but an 8 min mile is doable)

Michelle, do you know of any places around here that hold this test?

If you're doing the SCH AD,I believe your dog has to be registered/score book/,and you have to be a member with USA as well.
Here is some more info for you:

And here is DVG,which goes by the size of the dogs/mile.I believe you have to be a member to compete with them as well.

My club is gonna have a trial in Oktober, and the AD is on the list.
