Thanks.
I am having fun with this pup. I like what he is growing in to and the potential that I see in him. I am excited to see what he will be in a year or two.

AmBull, right?

I don't do protection stuff though I am very interested in it - he seems lo me like he really means business! Not happy with that decoy! It cracks me up that he still kind of has that puppy bark.

I keep fantasizing about the idea of a second dog and I can't decide weather or not I want another AmBull type or something smaller - on one hand I love Oscar(and I think he is very AmBullish) but a smaller dog is more appealing size with.

I love his colors and I'm glad you guys are enjoying eachother :)

Thank you.
Yes, he is an American Bulldog. He's not as big as he looks, he's under 55 pounds at this point. I think he'll end up around 75. What size dog are you thinking about?

Probably JRT/French Bulldog or larger. An SBT would be a lovely size, I think.
Then again, it took a while for him to settle down, but I absolutely adore Oscar's temperment - he is very gregarious, yet guards and will guard off my cues and will usually relax or drop it if I tell him, he is quite bomb proof, and will courageously investigate anything that makes him uncertain. He is about 75 lbs and quite lean. The only issue I have with his size is the strength a dog that size has, the joint issues of larger breeds (which we know all to well about), and the fact that I am unable to carry him farther then a short distance (which goes to the joint issue), so if he were to go lame or be unable to walk out on a hike, we would potentially not be able to get help for quite a while. Its nice to have a dog his size on a hike in the woods - a definite force to be reckoned with for any potential predator.
Oy! Its HARD to figure out! :)

Have you ever seen a Jagd dog? They are from Germany I believe. They are like JRTs but are way more dog. The Patterdale would be the middle ground between the two breeds imo.

If you're wanting to get into protection but work with a smaller dog it might be worthwhile to simply look into the lines that are producing more svelt females. I've seen a number of female ABs that are right at 60 pounds and with a female Malinois you can get something even lighter. If you start looking into gamebred APBT you can get pretty small females and males.

Oscar sounds like a cool dog.

Oooh I love Patterdales - they're adorable, but too hairy.

Thanks so much! Oscar IS a cool dog  4 mos -1.5 yrs he was a frustrating dog! (probably my fault, since I didn't know what I was doing really back then) After that he has just gotten better and better, really. We've been through a lot together; it may sound silly, but I look at him and there is a lot about how he handles the world that I admire. Can you tell I think he's great? :D

I've considered protection work, but the only club I've been able to find in my area does Sch., and the club... president(?) is pretty weird and I'm not sure I'd want to work with her.
Anyway, I guess I have a while to think about it...

Back to you (sorry to steal your thread)
Your guy is pretty cute!

Gigz is such an athlete and great looking dog!

And just to carry on the thread jack for a second :D , Frenchies are so cute!! I've talked a lot about wanting one or a Boston... Also, Robin is a bit of a pocket pibs at only 40 lbs and a metabolism I'd kill a man for-- she can't sit still long enough to gain weight. But it's a great size. River's 70# and it's almost too much to have her in the bed with everyone.

Ok. Carry on. :)
