I'll let you in on a little secret... The girly rivets are actually threaded studs. Rivets go for about $5 per 100, the threaded studs are about $4o per 100. I only mention this to let you know that I dont go cheap to save a buck. I would rather use the more expensive hardware because it is far more durable and reliable. I only use rivets if I am also stitching, which is a pretty good combination. If I may, I would like to show a pic of a collar I call Anaheim. I use both the threaded studs and rivets. It is a 2 ply collar, with a 3rd ply as an overlay, attached using the studs...

I love the Anaheim!

I wanted to know, is it possible for you to make collars where the inside of the rivets are not in contact with the skin (have a layer of leather over it, or fabric) because Jessie's throat is bare and metal irritates her (yeah, she's a sensitive princess)... lol

Yeah, Absolutely, I stitch the entire length anyway, I would just need to come up with something around the buckle...

These are really tempting...they're just so pretty!

I'm having a good summer so far...I might be able to splurge on a collar soon!

I've been really darn busy and have neglected to update this thread. I have a page on FaceBook now just for my leather; ST Leathercraft.

http://www.facebook.com/pages/Blanchester-OH/ST-Leathercraft/101977654043?ref=mf#/pages/Blanchester-OH/ST-Leathercraft/101977654043

If I did it right, it should be a public profile, so anyone can view it without registering if you dont already have an account... but what the heck, get an account and become a fan of ST Leathercraft any way.

Below is a pic of another Anaheim with a 2ply and also a working/agitation collar, which you can barely see so you're gonna have to go to the page. I know you want to anyway...

I have also made an album there with updated pricing and info.

Thank you, as always.

Brad, I passed your name and info along to all of the Service Dog trainers that I train with...in case they have need of a custom leather lead for a client. Sometimes it's hard to find a good leash for specialty clients. So I passed your info along...hope you don't mind! :D

Well, thank you! The Anaheim is one of my favorites, its a very solid, 2ply + the "badge" ply, collar. I had one go to a guy in WA state, and took his dog swimming in the sound above Seattle, right in the salt water... Not at all what I recommend, but if someone didnt try it, how else would I know this stuff... Anyway, he said the collar came out great, made sure it was clean and some oil, and was good as new. That is with oil dyes, and not alcohol based dyes.

Say hi to Dylan and the little dude for me! : )

Once again Brad has taken good care of me. You couldn't ask for better customer care. As you guys know, the clasp on Inara's leash snapped at the beginning of our dog class, so I sent Brad the leather leash/broken clasp as well as another leash of mine that had a bronze snap. He took the bronze locking snap off my old leash and transplanted it to my leather leash. He then put a regular snap on my old leash and changed all the chintzy rivets to screws. He also made me a backup connection on the freakishly off chance that I have another hardware failure. It's perfect and exactly what I was looking for - small, inconspicuous, yet still very nice-looking. Thanks Brad!

I love your work, Brad!!!
And I cannot wait to get my harness from you.

What is wrong with rivets, again?
We use rivets on our collars, granted, we double up on them, and we have not experienced much of an issue, except on the first collar we made, and that went to my brother.
And that was before we started to design our collars the way we do now. You live and learn.

screws are not always the best way for us because we do not use the thick veg tanned leather, we mainly use latigo. Our leather is not thick enough to use the screws.
We can use them on our leashes, though.
But as long as a rivet is set properly, I do not see an issue. And you can easily tell if a rivet is set properly.
BUT, having said that, we do use four rivets behind our D-Rings instead of two. I do not feel comfortable using just two.

And we don't use crap rivets, either.

This was a cheap leash and the rivets just didn't seem very safe. :)
