Yesterday we were leaving the vet clinic when a couple brought in a little rabbit. They asked if it was a domesticated one or a wild one and we looked at it and it looked like a domestic rabbit. It was hard to say really but more importantly, they told us their cat had attacked and "had been chewing" on it.
The rabbit was missing great patches of SKIN. Not just fur...SKIN
The receptionist said they don't deal with rabbits, and we said we'd take it and see what we could do. I drew up 1 cc of euth. solution and was going to just euth. since the rabbit really WAS missing more skin than would be compatible with life. One of his hind legs even had tendons showing
But when I had the solution in hand I couldn't do it. I saw he was eating and drinking and doing his duty so to speak - but that didn't matter.
He died last night some time.
Well at least he had a warm, safe place to cross the bridge.
RIP little bunny.
