... Cagney...

Postby mistee06 » September 5th, 2007, 1:24 am

I lost my battle with my boss about giving this dog a chance. He was approx. 5 year old intact red & white pit. He had no aggression towards people and had pretty mild aggression, in the shelter, towards dogs. The thing was...he didnt really show emotion at all. I undertstand why I had to do it, but I would have liked to give him a chance.

Cagney, was special, even though he didnt seem trustworthy, we had an instant bond (my boss says I have that bond with all bullies), but he was different. I could tell he needed me (or us I guess). Cagney breathed with great difficulty, at first we thought it was that he was sick....

Upon his death, the vet and I did a check over his body. He had new wounds from a fight he had gotten in a few days ago and then the more we looked the more we noticed old wounds... bad wounds... wounds most likely caused from fighting. His tongue was ripped in two spots...on the bottom by his tip (which we have seen before)... but then at the top of his mouth a huge chunk was missing. Then came the shocking part... well to me anyways... Cagney had problems breathing because his trechea had been crushed, he had scarring all over it... most likely again caused by fighting... the scar tissue was all over his neck, head, ears, and legs.

I feel so bad for him, he was a beautiful dog. I know he is better off now, but I feel so sorry that we couldnt help him sooner.

RIP you beautiful boy, I wish I could have helped you sooner.

btw...we are putting an add in the local paper to see if his owners come forward so we can question them about his wounds...[/size]

Oh, poor handsome guy. :(

I hope you get some answers.

I am so sorry. I know you love each and every dog that comes into your shelter. Cagney was fortunate to have you in his life.
