Our Petey boy is gone.

Postby Hoyden » January 22nd, 2009, 3:13 pm

We lost a piece of our hearts on Tuesday when we had to have Petey put to sleep.

He wasn't ready to go yet, but his body was failing rapidly.

He fought the sleepiness of the first sedative that they gave him. He kept licking the tears off of our faces and talking to us in his grumbly grunty voice. He was trying to console us, drowning us in his big sloppy kisses, nuzzling us and leaning into us. So the vet had to give him a second kind of sedative before giving him the final shot.

He left us wearing his favorite blue dog coat with his head in Mark's lap and me laying on the floor curled around him the way we used to snuggle in bed every morning. We kept telling him it was okay to go, Wally was waiting for him, he could give Wally more bathes. We told him that Abby, Mick and Yoda were there too. We told him how much we loved him and would always love him and thanked him for being such a wonderful dog, for helping us raise two kids and saving our lives. And then he was gone, taking a piece of each of us with him.

We've had him since he was 5-1/2 weeks and he had something to say about everything. The silence is deafening.

Rest in Peace, Putter Dog.

Oh, Noel... :(

I was SO wishing and hoping for more time for you guys.
I know how hard it had to have been to do this one last ultimate kindness for your boy, and my heart hurts for all of you.

When you posted stories and pics of Petey I always thought:" Now there is a dog who's body is far smaller than the heart it holds..."

I am going to miss him. :sad2:
