Hypothetical Question Regarding Foster Homes

Question to those of you that do rescue:

If you got a call from your rescue vet regarding the happiness and welfare of a specific foster dog and said foster home refused to let you on their property to check things out, what would you do?

Call the police, get an escort, go to the property, remove foster dog. Also make sure I had fostering contract in case it's questioned by police etc.

Is there proof that it is indeed a foster dog, and not their dog? Vet bills under the rescue's name, anything like that?

Then I would strongly suggest gathering any and all documentation. The last thing you want is the foster saying something like "no, this is my dog" or something like that.

Kudos to the vet for saying something.

What an icky situation to be in.

There are currently *seven* foster dogs at this particular foster home and there was never any sort of home check done. At all. I'm stepping away from this situation and the org for the time being.

Yes. This is what happens when you allow someone to surf the euth lists and pull litters of puppies willy nilly. Those cute Pit Bull puppies? Well, they don't get adopted and then they turn into adolescents with no manners and mange.

So the foster home refused to let the vet on the property? Why was the vet there...did they call him for something or did he just stop by? What has the rescue done so far?

I'm not saying that it's not a bad situation, but I'm just a bit confused... lol

Foster home took dog to the vet for mange treatment (it's the vet the rescue uses) and vet called Co-Founder of rescue with concerns about the dogs care. I believe the quote was, "XXXXX probably needs a new foster home where they want him and will care about him and teach him some manners."

Founder called co-founder and everyone decided they should probably check it out. Fosters refuse to let anyone on property but would give up dogs, I'm sure.

If the dog's care is under the rescue's name then the rescue should be able to go in and pull the dogs from them. To me it is sketchy that they won't let the rescue on the property to see the dogs. For me that insinuates guilt. I think the rescue should pull the dogs from them if they won't allow a representative from the rescue onto the property to see the care of the dogs.

In my experience the "owner" is the one who's name is on that of the most recent veterinary paperwork.

These dogs are under the rescue file at the vet because they give the rescue steep discounts.

If they won't let the rescue on the property that is a HUGE red flag... more like a red banner.

The dogs need to be pulled and that foster terminated. However, after a rescue approved someone to "foster" an intact adult male hound, when the family has 4 kids, 5 rabbits, another (out of control) dog, and no foster experience... well, I have about zero faith in rescues and foster homes at this point anyway.
