I apologize in advance if i'm not using the correct lingo for raw feeding. After visiting with my holistic vet, he recommended that I feed raw. I do think my dog has some serious food allergies, although I can't be sure they aren't environmental at this point, since he hasn't been tested. He has been eating Natural Balance Ultra Premium Venison & Sweet Potato.
I've looked into feeding a raw diet, and I'm a little overwhelmed. I'm sure with the proper research I could get a handle on everything, but I'm going to be student teaching in the fall. From what I've read here and other places, screwing up feeding raw is bad news for your dog. The desire to feed raw stems from wanting him to be as happy and healthy as possible, and trying to eliminate any allergy issues so he can finally be itch free.
Are raw patties ok to feed? I found some BARF brand patties, and even bought a sleeve, but is this "complete?" The bones are crushed up in the patty, but I read a lot about organ/muscle/bone ratios, and I'm not sure if the patties meet that criteria. I was planning on buying some bones (knuckle bones) to help with cleaning anyway--would this be sufficient, or are there other supplements he would need in his diet?
