British Expose on Purebred Dogs

Here is part one of six, you can see the links to the rest off to the side. They run about 10 minutes each.

Overall, I think it's pretty good so far. I'm on part three. The Nazi/Eugenics stuff is a bit much, though. Yes, what is happening is bad, but these aren't humans. The inbreeding/linebreeding comments were a bit simplistic, too.

This is the inevitable result of putting form before function and not culling everything but the strongest, healthiest specimens. Sad.

I just finished watching it.

I think they brought up a number of very valid points. However I think their proposed answer of health certification falls short. They did compare and contrast working GSD's to show GSD's but they didn't stress that working GSD's blow show dogs out of the water in terms of health and vigor.

In order to salvage any hope of restoring the health and vigor of decimated breeds, a working test must be devised for each breed. And it must be a difficult test that weeds out the genetically defective. But since there's no money in that, and I don't see the little old ladies running the breed clubs getting rained on and muddy while testing terriers on live vermin, I'm not holding my breath.

I wanted to punch most of the show breeders in that video. It makes me sick to watch them denigrate actual working, healthy specimens while elevating their mutations to a position of "best of the best". It makes me even sicker to watch the dogs suffering from completely preventable genetic diseases.

'gerda would not be wellcome as a kenal club dog simply because Bkack & tan staffies are the undesirable type of staffodshire bull terrier...so glad that O have her and she is not a kennel club regisitored dog.

I am so angery what has been and is happening with kenal club bread dogs & I am not angery with the dogs but with the 'humans' that are responsible for this happening.

I think its sad that they refuse to see the problems that they are perpetuating. I cant believe that the Shepard guy actually thought that the show Shepard was a better more functional representative of the breed. :crazy2:

Wow. Those were EXTREMELY interesting. Very difficult to watch, expecially part 2 with the epileptic boxer, and then whichever section showed those cavalier spaniels with that brain disease. Very sad. :(

You can't fake performance. Take ONE of the showline GSD's in that special and try to get him to herd, do basic protection, tracking, or guarding, and even if he wanted to his body would fail him. Know what that means? IT'S NOT A REAL GSD, SO DON'T BREED IT.

Um, no, according to those judges those misshapen show GSD's are what they are SUPPOSED TO look like. :rolleyes2:

I watched the videos one day then went to show my boss and they removed them from You Tube, must have pissed someone off! Due to website violations or something....maybe something was actually done about it!
I dont' think enough people know what they are buying when they buy a 'pure bred' dog. There are lots or pure bred dogs out there, that aren't well bred! Theres a difference too!

They will not see because they do not want to see they are blinded by their false beleife and if they could ever have the heart to see then they would have to admit what they are responsibel for.

this will not happen with out folks keeping up a lot of pressure & maybe not even then unfortunately because when deniale is that strong when confronted with all the evidence there is a danger that they will go even further into denial.

I do not and never will want to by a certified pedigree dog that is ceertified by the kennel club I will not support this happening to dogs nor will I put £'s into the breeders pockets who also have to take responsability.
