Houston, TX - A 2 wk-old infant was fatally mauled on Saturday night by the family dog.
The baby had been sitting alone in an infant carrier inside of the family home - the infant's mother was outside of the house, looking in through a window.
According to multiple reports, the family dog, a Labrador Retriever, pushed through french doors and approached the baby.
After sniffing the child, the dog began to attack.
Though the family rushed to pull the dog off of the newborn, the damage was already done - the child was airlifted to Memorial Hermann Hospital, but died five hours later.
The infant has been identified as Brayden McCollen.
Few other details about this tragic incident have been shared - no word on how long the child had been left in the room alone.
An investigation is being conducted to see if the infant's parents will be charged with negligence.
The dog is being held in quarantine - after 10 days, his fate will be determined.
Tragic and senseless and easily prevented. And need I point out that if it had been a pit bull the breed would've been mentioned in the headline and the dog would already be dead. Oh yeah, there would also be a breed ban being considered.
The parents should absolutely be charged with negligence.
