On June 29 2007, maberi wrote:Earl the Pearl just got his staples removed today. The vet said he is looking great other then some mild muscle atrophy. He is clear to start short 10-15 minute walks and in about a month will start some hydrotherapy (underwater treadmill). The vet and staff were psyched we are planning on the hydro therapy. They said it would cut down about 3 weeks of recovery time for Earl and would get him back to his old self a lot quicker :)

I wish I could do that with Oscar, lucky you! :D Yay Earl!

Yeah, I honestly don't have the cash for the hydrotherapy but I know Earl will love it and will help out a lot.

They have a big indoor treadmill that the dogs get into and then it fills up with water. I'm sure I'll have trouble trying to get Earl out of that thing

Maybe after he recovers a bit, you can get him into a "neighbors pool" or a local body of water? They sell 3 feet high and 8 feet diameter pools for under $100.

im a little late on saying his leg looks good but oh well!! LOL

we just had a cruciate surgery done on a siberian and we had to kennel him for 6 weeks in the office... we all thought it was going to be so hard...but he did really well...apparently siberians are the best dogs to get that kind of surgery done on because they are extremely wussy and wont use their leg until its good enough to be used... I couldnt imagine us doing a surgery on a pit ...

best of luck to you and your earl!!

The Pearl continues to rock on.

He had his follow up x-rays today and the surgeon said that he is doing much better than he had expected. He is now clear for longer walks and to begin hydro-therapy. I'll be sure to take some pictures of Earl in the tank
