"Frito" feet

Thanks! Do you need to make it batch by batch or can you mix it in a container and re-use it? Does it loses it's efficiency if mixed for a long period (in a sealed bottle)?

I've always just mixed-as-needed. So, I don't know. I would think the peroxide would lose its efficacy once it's cut with the vinegar, though.

Oh boy thanks for this one. Rocky has not been a smelly dog but when he lays around for long periods he has a fritto like smell. We have called him the fritto bandito since he was a puppy. A few months ago I noticed his fritto smell was much stronger than usual like I knew when he was behind me. About a week later he had a rash in the groin area went to vet and sure enough it was a yeast infection. My vet told me if I smell that strong smell again to give him a bath right away. His feet always have smelled fritto like, how do you know there is yeast infection?

In the toe area, you'll usually see a reddish-brown staining around the nails and/or in-between the toes. Depending on how bad the infection is, you may also see some "weepy" yellowish discharge and the skin will be an angry red. Same generally goes for the ears, but you'll see a build up of brownish waxy gunk. The smell is the dead giveaway.

Thanks I got together what is needed and I plan to clean his paws. I have always noticed a redish brown color between his toes I always thought that was just the hair turned color but now that I looked I noticed a nail had a spot of the redish brown. What stinks is at Rockys recent check up in October at 3 yrs old the dr was amazed at his beautiful skin with no issues. By this age he said surprised no skin issues especially with a mostly white dog with very pink skin showing. So now I wonder is there any reason these things start or is it a breed thing? I will follow up to let you know if the smell has decreased. I recently found the very same solution can be used for routine ear cleaning. As well as I have been using the solution for my sons swimmer ear for several years. I keep a bottle handy.

Have you changed Rocky's food recently? Change in diet? Any new or different laundry detergents/soaps in the house? Are you still living in the same residence? Does he have a different shampoo then he used to? Any new pets in the house?
It is most definitely a breed thing. Many short haired dogs have skin issues and in particular Pit Bulls (terriers, a strong part of their heritage, have significant skin issues throughout the breeds). It IS odd that he would be having these issues start at 3 years...

No I have not changed his food since vet had told me how great he looked back in Oct. He has been on the same food since he was 3 months. However I had given him a sample bag of dog food for treats just prior to last yeast infection. think it was inova. Sadly I threw the bag away so not able to confirm what may have been in it. The vet asked me if he could have eaten something unusual off the floor or if I had eaten anything new that I may have shared. Strange that he asked me any new marinara sauce? Just the other day I thought of that question again. Realized we did get a new pizza place. It is very likely someone in the house gave some to Rocky. There have been no changes to his food home beds or anything only change was my oldest son going to College. Since Rocky has not had any of these issues before Vet decided to treat aggressively and it went away quickly. I gave him a bath yesterday and cleaned his feet with the solution. And also cleaned his ears. He smells so good now. Hope it works.

so glad i saw this! duge who is 3 yrs old has been fighting an infection for about the past year! we did research and thought it was yeast, 2 vets did not agree with us! my poor baby stinks, is itchy and just plain miserable! he has missing patches of fur, red itchy spots behind his ears, inbetween his toes, and his chest! i think we have tried every home remedy there is! but whenever we take him to the vet they just want to medicate with this and that! predisone is their drug of choice which does nothing but relieve some itching! i noticed this morning his nipples are all crusty....hes going to the vet tomm hopefully for a strong yeast killer!! and because of all the itching he also had a staph infection...ahhhhh!!!

Actually since Prednisone is taken orally it actually works systemically. It not only stops the itching, it takes away the inflammation in the skin and calms down the dog's immune system, wich is causing the allergic reaction in the first place.
It is a common treatment for dogs with allergies, as a large part of allergy related medicine is making sure the animal is simply comfortable, for many dogs, there is no "cure".

Sounds like he has severe allergies and needs more than home remedies. Has he been tested for allergies? (It's a blood test.)

Yeast infections go hand-in-hand with allergies and you need to treat the allergies themselves, not just the yeast. Otherwise, the yeast will just keep coming back.

he has not been tested for allergies (yet) he went to the vet today and he wrote a rx for something that should kill the yeast. if that doesnt solve the trick we have been thinking it may be something in our house, since we moved in he has had these problems! he eats california natural (its the simplest ingredients for dogs w/allergies) we started on herring for 6 months, that didnt help so we went to lamb for 3-4 months. now we are on chicken! i wash him with hibicleanse to try to kill some of the bacteria on his skin. i have tried yogurt and apple cider vinegar mixture in his food nothing helps him!!! the prednisone worked for awhile but i think he is immune to it now. antibiotics do not work! we even tried a candida (sp) cleanse for a month! if its not yeast we are taking him to a specialist in amherst ny!!
