Prayers, good thoughts, Mojo, whatever please

Food, Fitness and how to keep them healthy.

Postby LMM » April 23rd, 2010, 9:09 pm

Otis Man, my very first adoption, is on his way (likely already there now)to the e-vet with a probable serious blockage.

Michelle emailed me saying he had been throwing up for 24 hours, acting pretty lethargic, and guzzling water. At the time she said she was taking him into the vet in the morning but I said be prepared to go to emergency because it sounded like a blockage and they go downhill fast. This evening while Michelle was away she had her dog walker go to check on him, and the dw spent an hour with Otis as he threw up every 15 minutes. Michelle went to pick him up and bring him in. I am going to go up there shortly to wait it out with her.

Otis Man is a sweet, sweet dog, please keep him in your thoughts that everything will be okay :( :(

good thoughts for Otis, but if it is a blockage it should be pretty straight forward

He is undergoing surgery right now, they had to get him hydrated and stable. The surgeon called Michelle and was explaining that she could not get a good read on the blockage from the xrays. She mentioned it could be anything from foreign objects to a mass and since there are objects in different places, more surgery could be required :(

*sigh* Please send lots of good thoughts that the surgeon is able to get everything out and that Otis's intestines aren't too compromised. I am thinking super positive right now that this isn't a mass.

The surgeon should go through all of the suspected intestine and "feel it up" to check for blockages :?
Unless there are special circumstances, my understanding has always been that the vet would want to get it out all in one surgery :|

Jenn, so many good thoughts coming for Mojo! Fingers crossed that one surgery is sufficient!

Malli the surgeon was referring to if they had to cut away any part of his intestine and that bursts during healing, it would require another surgery.

Thankfully everything went great and they didn't have to cut any of his intestines. Mr. Otis swallowed a pair of panty hose  The control top part had made it to his stomach and the rest was stretched throughout his intestines. Thankfully they were able to milk the rest all out into the stomach and didn't have to cut his intestines at all. So the good thoughts/prayers worked! He's out of surgery and doing well. They will try feeding him in about 12 hours.

Thanks you guys!
