Toy Reviews

Reference section for insurance info, dog friendly hotels, finding apartments, etc.

I thought it might be nice to have a section where we could just lump all of our dog toy reviews together. I'll start.

Tug a Jug - I ordered the large size and got it yesterday. I put Inara's dinner into it (and now her breakfast!) and it took her over an hour to get it all out. It was awesome! I could see her mind working as she figured out to get the most kibble out at a time. The toy itself is actually very sturdy.

I bought a Tug a Jug for Justus, and he wasn't interested at all, so we gave it to Shelby. She's a porker, so she's on a diet, and she'll scarf up her food really fast when we set it down for her. Now, it takes her awhile to get at it.

Also, the Loofah dogs, or BoBos as some people call them, I think, are Justus' favorite. He'll find the squeaker and just chew right there, or he'll throw it across the room and chase it.

Nobody likes the Cuz ball...sheesh, but everyone is a fan of the Kong.

btw Great idea for a thread! I need new toy ideas quick. Justus is very destructive all of a sudden.

Inara is a JUNKIE for her Cuz ball! I hate it with a passion, but she adores it. I'm pretty sure she ruptured my eardrum with it...

She loves her Nylabones too - she'll just sit for a long time chewing on it quite contentedly.

She loves the Bobos, but they don't last long enough to make them worthwhile.

The Everlasting Treat Ball:

http://www.triplecrowndogs.com/shop/product.htm?loc=208

Absolutely love this toy. It has outlasted even the hardest chewers in my house, and keeps the more "anxious" ones occupied. You can put small treats in the center part...then bigger treats (that are hard to get through) on the outside parts.

The everlasting treat ball has lasted at out house as well. The treats they sell for it don't last long at all (my crew gets them out easily) but the ball has hung around for a long time now.

We use a lot of Kong products as well. The stronger Kongs, the Kong Frisbee is by far our favorite and we love Kong balls as well.

We purchase Cuz toys too though I try to buy the ones with broken squeakers!

Nylabones and similar products are also household favorites that take a while to destroy.

I was just going to ask about toys...I'm glad I found this thread...

So today is Layla's 2nd birthday... :bday: and she got a kong ball and a new kong. She's really good about not destroying things that don't belong to her...she's never chewed shoes or socks or furniture or anything like that...but "indestructible" toys are absolutely not indestructible in this house. We get her the big black super kongs, and they get turned into tire turf.

We can't play with tennis balls because when she plays with them, they get crushed in her mouth when she runs back to bring them to you. Also, we've had to move to a kong frisbee because the plastic ones snap in her mouth when she runs with them to bring them back as well. (it's kind of funny seeing her bring them back...she'll drop them at your feet and then look like, "oh no mommy, i broke ANOTHER toy?!?!)

anyway, we are trying the kong ball and hoping this won't be destroyed in a matter of a few days. I don't mind her toys being destroyed that much, after all-they are her toys. I'd much rather her do that than chew on the couch. And I can't get angry at her, she's just playing. My question is...has anyone found any toys that are really good and tough?

We do have a few of the white marrow boys and she does really like those. They seem to be pretty sturdy and last a while. Every now and then she can break a piece off, so we keep an eye on her and just take the piece away from her.

Believe it or not, she loves stuffed animals...so just throwing that out for anyone who has super chewers---I know Layla is a rough chewer...but she carries stuffed animals around for hours and won't do anything to it.

Just looking for suggestions on some extra tough toys if anyone has any? Thanks!

A couple of treat dispensing toys that Score just ADORES...other than his KONGs of course. ;)

This is a new one- The Leo...we got a gift cert. for a local dog supply store (one that I can't afford myself)...and I bought this for Score at Xmas. A Leo toy...it holds all sorts of treats (biscuits, soft treats, odd shaped treats...it's all good). So far it's held up to his chewing/gnawing/throwing/tossing/etc.

http://www.caninegenius.com/products_leo.php

The Treat Stik...love this thing. He's gouged long furrows all around it with his teeth, but it still holds up. A bit noisy (which is why I got the Leo for flyball tournaments). Easy to put his dinner in...it holds about 2 cups of food, and dispenses easily, but not too easily. For more long periods of time...I put in oddly shaped treats that don't fall out as easy.

I like these too...Kong Stuff-a-ball. I got a couple at Big Lots the other day...they're nice for just stuffing with biscuits when I'm not gone long. ;) I also like the Kong Goodie Bones for just shoving biscuits in for short times.

For frisbees/dog discs...I can't go wrong with Jawz discs. My guys all chomp frisbees, and these are the best...the best $12.00 I've spent on my guys...they can play forever, and no teeth marks appear!

I had some trouble with the treat Stick (Sacha actually chewed part of the plastic off of it b/c she wanted the food...

I like the Leo, though...if I give you some money, do you think you could pick one up for me?

Fun thread :)

Guinness can not for the life of her be bothered with the Cuz i got her for christmas. She took one look at it and has apparently not touched it since. Same with the kongs, stuffing or no stuffing :| She nibbled some pieces of the only nylabone i have ever gotten her (worrying), but was not really enthusiastic with that one either...

The, and i mean THE, thing that gets her going is a treatball that i purchased at PetSmart
http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.j ... y&keepsr=1
It is the Tricky Treats Ball Dog Toy by Omega Paw. It can literally occupy her for hours and it is also the only thing she does not destroy (rip stuffies and balls). 2 of those has lasted us for 5½ years!

Apart from that she does enjoy the real thing, femurs from Mooses :) And regular rawhides too.

Cheers,

Cookie destroys everything. EVERYTHING. It doesn't matter what it is...her whole objective is to destroy it so...
1). mom/dad has to clean up the mess
2). makes it easier to get any treats out of it...if there is any left at all
3). so she can give to Buddie for him to enjoy....whatever is left of it that is. :rolleyes2:

Like I've mentioned before, it's all about her Kongs and Cuz collection. Her stuffies are well monitored play time that only lives for short minutes.

This is one inexpensive toy, that holds a lot of kibble and or biscuits... my 3 dogs push it around on the floor, and get treats out of it....

Harley would chew it up if allowed to, but he's learning to leave it on the floor and just push it... with constant supervision and cueing....

The neat thing is they can't guard both the food treats that fall out, and the ball itself... so one gets the ball, and one gets the treats...

Scout... Christine, you both have these... how did Buddie and Mick do with them?

He cracked the green ring that held the tube in place, pulled out the tube, and brought it to me... the whole incident took about 3 seconds and I was sitting 5 feet away from him... :rolleyes2:

I should also tell you that he was very proud to have "killed" the annoying giggling stranger inside the ball...

My toy review is basically non-positive ( ) - Mick has managed to destroy a black extra-large Kong and we're still finding bits and pieces all over the house... his Cuz balls have no feet left... his ropes are shredded and I find string in his teeth... he bit the handle of his new large Jolly ball... you all saw what he did to the "tongue" he got from Alyssa... he's an absolute maniac. :|
