Sirius: Before and After Raw Diet

Postby BullyLady » May 20th, 2008, 1:40 pm

So I am relatively new to this board and you guys haven't really gotten a chance to see how skinny Sirius was when we got him, or the struggle I've gone through trying to find something that will put weight on him, but I thought I'd share my happy results with you anyways. Sirius is up about twenty pounds and still gaining, plus his thrush and constant resulting staph infections have disappeared!. Yaaaay!!!

He's like a new dog!! Hopefully if anyone is considering switching to raw but is kind of on the fence this can be an encouragement to make the switch. I will never go back to kibble!

He's come a long way since being with you & I think he looks perfect at this weight. Of course it is hard to get a true picture of him since he is black but I dont think you have very much further to go. I know you had quite a struggle at first trying to find the right food for him but you should be proud of yourself for what you have accomplished with him. He is so handome

Yea, I think he's almost there too. His hip bones are still sticking out just a weensy bit too much for my liking, but he's getting to the point where he's gained enough and not had his food upped so his weight is leveling out. I will probably just leave him at 4 lbs a day and call it good. :)

I, too, have a black Dane. He was six months old when we got him, and he was skin and bones, too. He was also allergic to corn, wheat and soy. I tried raw with him, and he gained weight like a champ. Because of $$ issues, I had to switch back to kibble, but it's holistic and nearly grain free (no corn/wheat/soy). I completely sympathize with you getting weight on a Dane...it's harder than it looks! Especially when the dog is really active. You did a great job! He looks way happier!

Wow...what a difference....when Cy came to me you could count his ribs...I put him on raw and he looks so much better, and his coat is gorgeous!
