Switching the kitties to raw

Postby adoptanapbt » September 5th, 2008, 3:09 pm

OK, both my boys have immune issues and I've read such dramatic things about raw, that I'd like to consider switching them to raw. Allegedly, cats can be more finicky about switching so I guess there's a whole program of mixing ground meat in with wet cat food, etc, but I decided I'd just buy some raw treats to see if the cats would even take to raw. I bought chicken liver (I looked for chicken necks, but didn't find any) and offered everyone a little bit today. I almost had a riot on my hands.

I don't know if I'll switch Desi over, but any advice on feeding cats?

Desi's turkey neck went over extremely well, but she already eats carrots & apple pears on her own. She may just have to be happy with turkey necks, yogurt & fruit/veggies.

Yeah, okay smartypants. :D Maybe I'll stick with kibble/raw mixture if cats are that delicate. :|

I had my cats on raw for three months. I only stopped because it was a little more than my budget could handle, but when I'm out of school I will probably put them back on it. I fed mine chicken hearts and ground up eggshell. We hadn't gotten to the point of adding new meats yet, they kept rejecting them, but man they LOVED those chicken hearts!

I switched my cats to raw because the kept having blocked bladders. The switch was done almost a year ago and absolutly no problems since. I feed them Bravo!. They like all of the different varieties that I have tried. Fortunatly they were never very picky when it came to food. I caught them trying to eat horse grain before...Stupid Kitties! Good luck with the switch!
