2 Dogs 2000 Miles

Here is where we can discuss canine cancers and treatment options to create a support system for those dealing with the disease.

Why We Are Walking Across the Country

In 2004 my dog, Malcolm was diagnosed with bone cancer. Amputation and chemotherapy only slowed its progression and the cancer ultimately metastisized to his lungs. After almost a two year battle, he was given rest.

Malcolm was only six when diagnosed and no one could tell me why or how he got this horrible disease. Dogs are living longer these days said some. It's genetics said others. Or his diet. Perhaps pesticides or administering multiple vaccinations at once.

We've known about cancer for over half a century and that we still don't know these answers was unacceptable to me. And so I sold my truck, put my stuff in storage, & set out on the road with a pack on my back, my boys, Hudson and Murphy, at my side, and a simple belief.

We can discover the cause of canine cancer. After walking over 1000 miles thus far and meeting many thought leaders in veterinary oncology we're beginning to understand the challenges we face off the road to achieve that goal.

And this little cross country walk we're taking is only the beginning...

puppy up!

Hudson, Murphy, and Luke

I'm going to try and get to NYC and/or Hartford to walk with them when they pass through. Anyone want to join me?

Oh man I wish I were closer, I would so be down for that. Actually, they might be worth a road trip. Do you know any of the details yet?

Nothing solid yet -- NYC Christmas week, give or take a few days, and Hartford sometime early February depending on weather. When the time gets closer, I'll contact them for specifics.

And I WILL be hitting all of you up for donations! :D

Keep me in the loop, a road trip is definitely do-able. Especially NYC at Christmas! :D

When it gets closer, let me know. I don't think I could do the NYC one, but depending on timing, the CT one might be possible.

I just got an email from my Aussie rescue list that this will be in DC on Sept 18th...

I won't be able to go walk, but I wish I could!

Thanksgiving Live Video!

Live Video Feed on Thanksgiving Evening!

Hudson, Murphy and Luke will be doing a live video feed Thanksgiving evening from their tent! Time is 9PM EST, 8 CST, and … well, you get the picture – or you will! You’ll be able to see The Boys live from their tent, and type in questions for Luke to answer. You’ll be able to hear his responses as well. He won’t see or hear us (so you can stay on the comfy couch as you recover from Thanksgiving dinner), but we’ll see and hear him and be able to interact via the web. Simply log in as a “guest” using a screen name of your choice. It’s easy and should be a lot of fun. If this works out, Luke would like to do more video feeds for the remainder of the walk. So, come join us Thanksgiving evening at 9PM EST!

I think we're heading to Richmond VA for their walk. Too bad I can't bring one of my dogs with me.

Awww man... I just learned of this guy from Dogs 101 last night... I hope to walk with him in Washington in November. Hopefully whatever therapy he chooses helps.
