East Haven, Conn. (WTNH) - Police in East Haven say a dog was shot in the head prior to a fire being set at a house on Warner Road. Now donations are needed to help the dog make a speedy recovery.
The bullet went in the right side of Sasha's face and broke her jaw.
"She does need surgery to help repair her jaw, but we think she will make a full recovery and be able to eat like a normal dog," explained Dr. Leyenda Harley, New Haven Central Hospital for Veterinary Medicine.
Firefighters found Sasha inside the burning home early Monday morning.
"There was blood just pouring from her face and with the help of the fire department we got her into the cruiser and got her down here just as quickly as we could. I was surprised that she even made the ride based on the amount of blood that was in the car," said Ofc. Vincent Ferrara, East Haven Police Department.
But treatment is not cheap. The hospital and the East Haven animal shelter are taking donations from anyone who wants to help.
No charges have been filed against the owner for the dog abuse or the arson -- yet.
"The dog was shot by someone and that's a crime. It is an ongoing criminal investigation and we'll see where it leads to," Ofc. Little said.
Sasha's treatment is expected to run about $8,000.
