Tucker

Postby plebayo » January 31st, 2011, 1:57 am

My friend's stepmom accidentally ran over my friend's dad's dog Tucker.

They brought him in friday, he had several broken ribs and his elbow was out of joint. We placed a catheter and put him on fluids. By Saturday he felt like a balloon but was stable. They couldn't afford emergency transfer so they were hoping that the dog would rest for the weekend and the lesions in his lungs would heal. He was doing find last night, find this AM when a coworker and I went in to change blankets. Tonight my dad came to help me, we lifted his hind end to put blankets under him and he started agonally breathing and then stopped breathing. I was about to try tubing him and just as I got the stuff together he started breathing again. The vet was on her way, we gave him blow-by oxygen and when she showed up he was semi-stable. While she was there and we were waiting for the owners to decide what to do he crashed again. We still had a heart rate but he was not conscious. His owners decided to have him put to sleep.

I feel really bad because we essentially stressed him out trying to move him but as the same time this probably would have happened regardless and at least he didn't suffocate or die alone in a run by himself.

RIP Tucker, you were a really good boy, you lived a long and very full life. You were the nicest chow cross I had ever met and your parents loved you so much.

I found a picture of him:

He was a good boy.

My friend brought in some plaster type stuff and the staff was able to get some paw prints and a 3D mold of his foot. It totally sucks and I still really feel horrible but he was just too big and his injuries too great for him to make it. He was going to be 14yrs old today so he led a very good long life but I'm sure for her family it wasn't enough and I know her stepmom feels horrible. Thank you for the kind words everyone.

What a sad way to go... my husband's mom did that to their own dog years ago. He was old and slow and her mom's was visiting who started calling at him to move while she backed out - he probably looked at the voice instead of the wheels... Goodbye, Tucker. :wave2:
