Cat Deterrant?

Everything that doesn't fit anywhere else!

Postby pitbullmamaliz » December 5th, 2011, 9:09 am

I have a cat that has decided to move in underneath my back porch. Normally I wouldn't mind, but my yard is starting to smell like cat pee, and Inara is unbelievably fixated at getting under the porch to get to said cat. She is constantly asking to go outside and I have to holler at her and bang things to get her away from the porch to actually pee when she's out there. I worry that she is going to kill it and/or get her face ripped up as she's shoving her head under the porch. So what harmless things can I do to encourage said kitty to find another house to squat under?

It's a cat. Tell it you want it there, and only there... and it will go away.

If you make it clear that you want it to leave, it will never EVER come out.

Yup. They hate the smell. Works for resident skunks too.

I bought some mothballs but it's been raining nonstop so they're not out yet. I've just been taking Inara out the side on leash instead of letting her out back. She's salty, lol .

Make sure you watch Inara (obviously you know that, sorry) around the mothballs - if she's able to get to them, that is. There's a certain ingredient in there that can be harmful to dogs... And I can't for the life of me remember what it's called right now.

We had to use a ton for the moles and voles, which didn't work, and when I googled, that's how I found out about it.

Yeah, I was going to toss them under the porch where she can't reach. Thanks!

The shelter I work for will rent cat traps to people. When they catch the cat, they bring it, still in the trap, to the shelter. If an owner comes forward we talk to them about keeping their cat in. If no owner, the cat goes up for adoption.
